Effective training ensures capacity building

A vital aspect of contingency planning is ensuring that all your people know what to do when a crises occurs.

Our approach brings training to life – through a combination of classroom teaching and simulation exercises, all supported with paper and electronic documentation.

We can also create courses aimed at training your trainers, enabling them to roll out the training across your organisation.

Classroom training curricula

General topics:

  • Oil spill response - general response strategies and techniques
  • Equipment deployment, maintenance and repair for field operators
  • Management and organisation of on site cleaning operations
  • Oil spill response crisis management and media handling

Simulation exercises

Putting theory into practice is best achieved through on site simulation exercises. Each exercise is designed taking into account the local context to build a realistic scenario. Post exercise assessment ensures that your organisation can build on their weaknesses and create a position of strength.

A selection of simulation exercises we have run include:

  • Internal communications drills
  • Equipment deployment drills
  • Response and crisis management drills
  • Media communication management drills
  • “The combined effect” – a drill that tests all facets of the organisation.

Specific programs:

  • Dispersant usage
  • Aerial observation
  • Crisis and media management
  • Claims handling and compensation

These courses are available in both English and French.
